What is the Re-Challenge

Re-Fashion, Re-Create, Re-Use, Recycle, Reduce, that is our goal.

The Re-Challenge is a challenge to anyone who should accept it to practice the 5 Re's before going out and buying something new or even worse, mass produced.

Less is more and new is not necessarily better.

Reclaimed shipping supplies- Submitted by Cristina of Migo Wrap

This one was sent to me by Cristina of Migo Wrap.  Instead of using new shipping boxes for her super cute baby carrier, she reclaimed sturdy shoe boxes from a nearby shoe store.
I guess you could say she is thinking outside the box..... (insert cricket sounds here).  OK, so I should not go out and become a comedian but if you have a baby, or even toddler, you should go and check out Migo Wrap on Facebook.

Cristina has come up with what looks like a baby wrap like the hundreds of others on Etsy or in baby stores but looks can be deceiving. This wrap is so snuggly soft and she has engineered it so that it does not sag and can even  hold up her really active 3 year old though its most often used for her Exhibit D who is 1.  For more information on Migo Wrap, visit my main blog Crunchy Catholic Momma here.
Thanks for taking the challenge Cristina, Keep them coming.

Toddler Pajamas from receiving blankets

Livie needs pajamas.  I have a ton of infant receiving blankets which are so cute and practically brand new that I did not have the heart to part with.  What I don't have are enough pajamas for my baby who is always growing.

Solution: 2 piece pajamas from super soft and cuddly, cotton interlock blankets.  These are I think from Carters and were given to me by friends as gifts.  They hardly got any use because I sew my own.  The cool thing about these blankets as well as any from Ralph Lauren, Gap or even Old Navy I am assuming, is that they consist of two layers so they are really cushy and warm but still breathable.  You can take advantage of the edging that is already done so you won't have to hem the sleeves or the neck opening.

Here is the blanket:

Welcome to The Re Challenge

Welcome to The Re Challenge.  We are Tricia and Alex and we will be your navigators through your journey here.  We are a mother and daughter team of designers with very different tastes as well as interests but we share a love of sewing, baking, candle stick making (OK just kidding but it rhymed).

For many years we have been disgusted by the buy mentality that has swept our society.  We have longed for those simpler times (though they had their own problems), for simpler things like sipping lemonade on the front porch instead of watching someone doing it on TV.  For the simplicity and beauty of handmade clothing and items made by a person, with love and patience. I came to the realization that things seperate us all from the life I we yearn for. If you too say no to the buy more stuff to be happy mentality and yes to make it yourself or special and handmade , then join us.  The rules are posted at the top of the page. Don't forget to share your projects with us.
